Status del weekend

Direttamente dallo status blog:

web features: all systems ok

SMS: all systems ok (we are investigating some problems with error messages being sent)

user restoration/deletion: all systems ok

person search: all systems ok

pagination: most users will be able to paginate back through older updates on the web, however some may run into situations where older links are not available.

IM: remains offline; working on additional capacity for the restoration of this service

Track: this service is disabled and will remain offline until it can be reworked

badges: the “with friends” badge is broken. it will either display nothing or information from a default user (i.e. not your content). We’re going to be recoding this to restore its functionality

Facebook app: currently broken for many users, we need to rework some of the core functionality of the app to bring it back in a stable way.

API: the rate limit remains at 30 requests per hour

Direi che pian piano si migliora ma Twitter è ancvora messo male.

Una mela al giorno…

Sembra che twitter sia stato messo a punto per soppravvivere al live bloging dell’ennesimo e super atteso talk di Steve Jobs.

Certo le soluzioni sono a mio avviso un pò discutibili, disabilitare feture ecc.., ma se riuscissero a restare up sarebbe comunque un successo.

Messaggio inquietante

Sullo status blog di twitter c’è questo messaggio non molto promettente:

We just lost a database about 5 minutes ago and this has severely impacted the site.
We’re working on recovering from this now.

Speriamo risolvano.

Spiegazioni sui down di twitter

Sicuramente il più grosso problema di twitter è la sua scarsa affidabilità, con l’aumentare della popolarita del servizio i problemi sono cresciuti esponenzialmente causando down anche molto lunghi.

Sabato Twitter ha publicato un post sul suo blog in risposta a una sorta di lettera/post aperto di TechCrunch in cui alcuni particolari sull’architettura che sta alle spalle di twitter vengono spiegati ed analizzati, una lettura molto interessante secondo me.

Dal post si evince come uno dei grandi accusati per l’instabilità di twitter, ruby on rails, probabilmente non sia il vero colpevole dei down del servizio ma che la probabile causa sia una errata( e sottostimata) architettura di database.

Un altra cosa a mio avviso interessante è che il blog di twitter sia ospitato su blogger e che lo status blog sia addirittura ospitato sul rivale tumblr.
